Peter Lane is a New York based artist fascinated by Japan. Over many years, he has been working on how to personalise traditional japanese ceramic techniques. Using his own mix of sands, he creates a specific texture of clay in order to reflect the naturalistic genre of his work. Theses sculptures evoke textures birchwood, honeycombs, or scholar rocks, rocks that are sculpted by the water of a river. This creativity was first expressed through objects such as vases or lamps which have been developed into larger architectural pieces today.
From ceramist to sculptor, Peter Lane’s artworks are sometimes several meters long, for example the modular wall « Seabed III», presented at the « Pavillon des Arts et du Design » of Paris and London in 2009 is 5 metres; molded, sculpted, fluted, and enamelled. As a result he was awarded the Prize of best artwork at that exhibition.
The « Life on Mars » wall, presented the year after, confirmed the talent of this artist who developped his creativity in large scales and architectured volumes. These events were also successfully followed by others at the Art Decoratifs in paris, the armory show in new york and more recently the paris photo in Los Angeles.
Peter is represented in Paris at Chahan Gallery, as well as in the United States at Gray Gallery in Los Angeles.
His exclusive collaboration with Chahan Minassian is constantly evolving, producing new expressions through various innovative clay effects. These spectacular results are also adapted to Chahan’s designed furniture. Indeed, Peter Lane’s partnership with Chahan Minassian’s has resulted in exceptionnal libraries, spectacular screens, and more recently a beautiful chest of drawers.
The quality of peter lane’s work is largely appreciated by aesthetes and collectors all around the world, and has also been confirmed and praize by the « Arts Decoratifs » Museum of Paris as one of his artwork is part of the permanent collections since 2009.
